Reg Meuross at St James Rooms, Wath – Raising the Rafters for Humber Rescue

September 20 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Reg Meuross – Singer, Songwriter, Storyteller
Folking.com ’Soloist of the Year’ 2019, Reg Meuross is in the final run of touring his latest album 12 Silk Handkerchiefs. The song cycle, inspired by Brian W Lavery’s book  The Headscarf Revolutionaries, opens a window onto Hull’s Hessle Road fishing community and fighting fishwife Lillian Billoca’s successful campaign for improved trawler safety in the aftermath of the 1968 Triple Trawler Disaster.  Reg has that rare gift of being able to touch people through his songs and performance, on a really human level, his words and music painting pictures that remain with the listener long after the song has been sung, accompanying himself masterfully on guitar and captivating audiences with his beautiful tenor voice.
“Meuross has achieved something rare and important… and he has done so with great sincerity and emotional depth.” Folk Radio UK
Among a sea of dates for the full show, we are happy to present this very special Raising The Rafters ‘Rafters Xtra’ solo show at the Saint James Room, Wath on Friday 20th September. Reg will sing the songs from the album, followed by a selection from his repertoire, bringing characters from history to life, commenting on life around him plus some the most heart aching love songs ever written, always performed with depth and spellbinding delivery.
Ticket money will raise funds for the Humber Rescue.
This tour is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
“One of the most talented storytellers of our generation” Pennyblack Music
“Powerful and moving songwriting” Martin Chilton, The Telegraph
“A mighty songwriter and an equally fine singer” Martin Carthy
