Reg Meuross with Geoff Lakeman at Unit 23 Totnes

January 27, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:45 pm

£10 – £12

A return visit to Unit 23 (formerly South Devon Arts Centre) and this time it’s Geoff Lakeman After All These Yearsextra special as the stage will also be graced by Geoff Lakeman, the legendary folk singer and duet concertina player (father of Sam, Sean and Seth) who is releasing his debut solo album ‘After All These Years’ on January 5th.

Geoff has included one of Reg’s songs, England Green & England Grey on the album, so no doubt they will be playing this, and hopefully more, together, as well as solo sets.

Reg says “After All These Years is proper living, breathing, strong heart beating folk music. I recommend immensely!”, and Geoff says of Reg: “I’ve always been attracted to Reg’s strong lyrics and subject matter. There’s always a message as well as a narrative to his songs, and beautifully constructed musically with melodic hooks – he’s a true singer-songwriter which many people strive to be but never quite achieve. They could do well to listen to or go to see Reg“.

Reg Meuross is a true modern troubadour, representing contemporary English folk writing at its best. “There’s something special about the way he writes and delivers a song” Townes Van Zandt.

In the mid-1980s Reg Meuross formed the Panic Brothers with Richard Morton, mixing Americana with humour and slick harmonies. Then came the Flamingos, Hank Wangford, and now 11 highly acclaimed solo albums, and a new one (FARAWAY PEOPLE) to come out this Spring, have established his songs as ‘the hinges upon which swing the doors of perceptive English folk’ (Folkwords).

Reg’s songs comment bravely on life as he sees it, bringing wide ranging stories from the ghosts of WW1 soldiers to the ravages of dementia, and some of the most beautifully disarming songs and lyrics ever written. Reg has that rare gift of being able to touch people, through his songs and performance, on a really human level. His words and music paint pictures that remain with the listener long after the song has been sung.

“Meuross, quite simply, is one of the best” Malcolm Carter, Pennyblack Music
“Powerful and moving songwriting” Martin Chilton, The Telegraph
“A mighty songwriter and an equally fine singer” Martin Carthy
