Reg Meuross at the Kitchen Garden Cafe Birmingham, with support Edd Donovan

December 10, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm

Reg Meuross with support Edd Donovan at the Kitchen Garden Café Birmingham 10 December Reg Meuross was described by Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show as a “brilliant singer-songwriter with a social conscience”. He returns to the Kitchen Garden bringing songs from stunning new solo recording ‘Faraway People’, as well as an award-winning back catalogue of nine highly acclaimed albums.
Reg is a true modern troubadour, from gigging in village halls and folk clubs to playing the Royal Albert Hall and intimate as well as huge festival stages in the UK and abroad. He consistently entrances his audiences with songs of life, love and injustice, soulfully delivered with melodic tenor vocals and exemplary guitar playing. ‘Faraway People’ is a new collection of songs which comment bravely on life as he sees it, bringing wide-ranging stories, from the ravages of austerity and the injustice of the plight of refugees, to some of most beautifully disarming lyrics ever written.
Reg represents contemporary folk writing at its best, with that rare gift of being able to touch people through his songs and performance, on a really human level. His words and music paint pictures that remain with the listener long after the song has been sung.
“Time and again, Reg proves himself one of the key songwriters of our age” David Kidman
Mick Tems Folk Wales on Faraway People: “Verdict: every song from the gentle, enchanting genius is worth its weight in gold.”
“There’s something special about the way he writes and delivers a song” Townes Van Zandt.

Opening the evening is Edd Donovan is a highly distinctive singer and songwriter with a rare, original talent. His sound is heartfelt – comforting, yet challenging – wise. Rooted in Indie Folk and Americana, he draws on a broad spectrum of influences and makes use of the talents of his full band, The Wandering Moles, and features meticulous, intricate arrangements, rhythmic shifts and close harmonies that recall classic artists such as The Band, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Nick Drake

“A hugely talented, original songwriter” Folk And Tumble.  “Beautiful” Bowerbirds “Immensely inspiring…the more people who can hear his voice and words, the better” Dr Andrea Ashworth, author of ‘Once In A House On Fire’. “I love Edd’s music – he’s terrific” – Charlie Dore
