Stolen From God live at Sidmouth Folk Festival

August 4 @ 8:00 am - August 11 @ 5:00 pm

Reg Meuross presents his groundbreaking song cycle Stolen From God, with concertina wizard Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne.

Reg’s belief that folk songs provide a rapid and accessible route into history and its relevance to current affairs and our lives stood him in good stead when it came to unearthing and tackling how to unfold the history of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in story and song: “After 200 years so much of this important part of our history is only now being owned and examined.”

“Folk Opera is certainly not dead!” says At The Barrier “Combining narrative and song that sits comfortably (or ‘uncomfortably’ given the subject matter) with Peter Bellamy’s The Transports.”

Cohen adds “Stolen From God brings attention to a seriously neglected era of British history with songs that are genuinely thought-provoking”.

Reg’s lyrics and delivery have earned him the title of  “Master Storyteller” (PennyBlack Music) and led Mike Harding to introduce him onto the stage of The Royal Albert Hall “one of the finest singer-songwriters this country has produced”.

“A mighty songwriter and an equally fine singer” Martin Carthy

“what an amazing, deep & vitally important piece of work you have made” Angeline Morrison

..assured a place in the pantheon of great folk songwriters.” David Kidman, The Living Tradition

“The remarkable singer-songwriter that is Reg Meuross” Sean Rafferty BBC Radio 3
