I’ve been to The States twice this year, mostly Texas, although the second tour, I had a few days off and went to Nashville Knoxville, Memphis, Chattanooga etc. You can read about these trips on the Blog pages of my Myspace site www.myspace.com/regmeuross. I was also asked to write some articles for Acoustic magazine, Issues 22/23 & 24 which included details of these trips: www.acousticmagazine.com. There was a two page article on me in October’s Maverick Magazine by its editor Alan Cackett.
I have had two fantastic and pretty much sell-out tours in the UK this year with Phil Beer. The touring with Jackie Oates is an ongoing thing for the time being, although her profile is very definitely on the up, and she is doing more and more solo gigs to promote her wonderful album The Violet Hour www.myspace.com/jackieoates. We will be doing some Rural Touring in Somerset & Hereford & Worcester areas in the new year, in a new show we’re putting together called ‘Songroads’ which includes more of Jackie’s traditional songs as well as some new ones from me.
My new album Dragonfly has already sold out of its first run and is gradually gaining momentum. Thanks largely I think to Mike Harding taking a shine to it and playing it on his BBC Radio 2 Folk Show. There is an interview pencilled in with Mike in the near future. They also asked me to be their guest blogger in early October and I inadvertently managed to stir things up a bit by asking the seemingly innocuous question “What is the tradition?” You can read about it on Mike’s Website. It also spilled over onto the BBC Radio Folk & Acoustic Message Board http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio2/F2142825?thread=5939417 Where a couple of people got very nasty and personal but it all blew over in the end. Folk eh? Who woulda thought it! Dragonfly has been playlisted on many of the regional radio stations too, including Johnny Coppin’s Bristol show, Lester Simpsons Derby show, Frank Hennesey in Wales & Iain Anderson in Scotland.
The second half of August saw me and Hank back in the beautiful highlands of Scotland again for a 10 date tour which included the islands of Eigg & Arran and The Knoydart peninsula. We played several places we’d been to last year and some new ones too in The Boat of Garten & Glenuig. A gorgeous and soul charging trip. Hopefully we’ll be up there agin in 09.
