Magical gig last night at Trinity church, Ringwood, thanks to Neil King, BFC Presents, Fatea Magazine and Steve on sound.
For the first half I did Fire & Dust (A Woody Guthrie Story) solo, and it’s incredibly rewarding to meet more and more people who are happy to tell me they’d never heard of Woody before but are now discovering a truly significant folk artist and poet for the first time. All but one of the songs in the show are mine, and every time we get to the exception – Woody’s ‘This Land is Your Land’ – I feel the wave of recognition from the audience and a spirit of community, regardless of the fact Woody was singing about his land, America.
The song feels truly universal, even more so in these times when the wicked landlords are doing all they can to deny, divide, deforest and destroy our safe harbours and the lands we call home. Thanks to everyone who came out and sang last night in Ringwood, and I’m looking forward to many more throughout this year both solo and with some truly fabulous guests.
